So... I may have found my new favourite Mexican restaurant in Toronto. Last weekend, T and I decided to spend an evening downtown and ended up in Little Italy (the irony). La Carnita is a beautiful celebration of Mexican street food, music and art. Loud, yes. Crowded, yes. Worth it? YES.
If you're planning a visit, make sure you're either okay with an early dinner or a wait. We arrived at 5:30, and luckily got seated immediately. Not long after, there was already a huge line forming at the door so be prepared!

Mexican street corn with crema, queso anejo, arbol and ancho chilli powder.
(Reminiscing on how delicious this was makes me cry. I'm pretty sure I can eat this, and only this, as a meal.)
Tortilla chips with ancho chilli powder, guacamole, sikil pak and mezcal chipotle liver paté
In Cod We Trust | Voltron sauce, lime crema, pickled red cabbage, green apple and cilantro
Pollo Frito | Peanut mole sauce, pickled green cabbage and salsa fresca
Beef Cheek | Ancho braised cheek, lime avocado, green cabbage, pickled jalapeño and shallots
We then finished off the meal with fresh churros and housemade cajeta, a confection of thickened syrup made from caramelized milk (not pictured, they were long gone before I remembered to snap a pic, oops).
As a final touch, the server gave us this fun print from a local artist.
All in all, it was a scrumptious meal and I would go again. Tomorrow.
