T.O Eats x Four | King West in Photos

3:20 PM

The good, the bad and the... not so delicious. The past week has been quite an adventure for my taste buds (and my wallet) as I tried out 4 different restaurants in Toronto's King West neighbourhood. For those who are looking for a new place to eat, here are some of my thoughts:

1 | Wayne Gretzky's Oasis Rooftop Patio
99 Blue Jays Way

I looove food, so it's shocking for me to say this but... yikes. Karen and I made a trip to Oasis for some dinner and drinks and we both left starving. In fact, we had to go a second restaurant immediately after! A couple reasons why we both didn't have the greatest experience.

First, we were underwhelmed by the ambience and décor of the patio - perhaps we had unrealistic expectations of what the restaurant would look like because of the Gretzky's name. The servers not only messed up my drink order, but they also gave me the wrong food order. The food was also subpar, cold and felt extremely 'home-made', not to mention the mismatched serving plates, in addition to drinks in disposable cups... we were in and out in less than hour. With a big patio space, I'm sure it'd be fun for a night out with friends but we were hoping for a nice dinner, and definitely didn't get that.

2 | Hey Lucy Pizza and Wine Bar
295 King West St.

Such a gem! Known for their authentic wood burning oven pizza and cheap martinis on Wednesdays ($4.49!) this was was definitely a winner. Karen and I chose Hey Lucy after Oasis, but since we already had a 'dinner', it felt silly to order more entrees so we stuck to a couple of martinis and a cone of sweet potato fries. My favourite things about the restaurant has to be between the warm, eclectic décor and the cozy rooftop patio! The restaurant is small and quaint, but the high energy and buzz in the air was just right. Perfect spot for a laid back night with your girlfriends or some comfort food.

3 | HUSH

After finding this place through a quick search on the web, Kathleen and I were super excited to check out the rooftop patio and get a birds eye view of the bustling King West during TIFF. However, the patio was at capacity so we grabbed a table indoors which was fine as we loved the dimmed lights, abstract hanging ceiling fixtures and suede booths. Swanky, dark and sophisticated would be the perfect 3 words to describe this restaurant. We ordered a bottle of Malbec and shared a (deliiiiiicious) appetizer to kick off the night!

4 | Kit Kat Italian Bar & Grill

This is actually my second time eating at Kit Kat (click here for my post from 2012), and the second time was just as good as the first. Actually, it was better - the restaurant was packed but we were lucky enough to score some seats on the sidewalk patio which was the perfect spot to people watch (trust me, you would have wanted to, too) and appreciate the TIFF buzz in the air. Unfortunately, no celebrity sightings but an ice-cold pitcher of red sangria and a bowl of mussels in a white-wine reduction sauce made up for it! Kit Kat is the ideal spot to indulge in some hearty food and get in touch with your Italian side.

Casually people watching.
Such a fun night! Hope you can check out some of these spots soon - until next time!
