food, fashion & art | distillery district, balzac's, archeo, delve'13

Happy Monday, lovelies - hope everyone had a good weekend!

I had a fantastic day with Jay at the gorgeous Distillery District. The art show that we were planning to check out took place in the evening, so we spent the afternoon having a little foodie adventure!

Sunday was chilly but there was a lot of sun - I'll take it. I've been obsessed with solids lately, so I threw together a simple, colour blocking outfit. It was pretty neutral so I went a little heavier on the makeup with a bright red lip.

First stop was Balzac's Coffee. Absolutely in love with this place. 2-stories, cozy and rustic, the founder of Balzac's wanted to bring French culture and a piece of Parisian charm back to Canada. My 2 favourite design elements had to be the enormous drop chandelier and the fact that it's 2-floors. We definitely took advantage of that and sat in this little balcony overlooking the main floor.

Ugh, I am a sucker for nice packaging. I ordered a basic cappuccino which was rich and dark, so all you coffee fanatics - this is a MUST try.
Next stop was dinner and we chose Archeo, an Italian eatery. So not only do Jay and I appreciate creative packaging, we love interior design and this restaurant was definitely a treat for the eyes. Archeo describes itself as the 'restaurant equivalent of the urban loft apartment'... or think of it as an Urban Outfitters that serves food LOL.
The second picture is a view from our table; they had these really cool, B&W translucent portraits that hung as partitions throughout the restaurant.
Clockwise, from top-left:
grilled chicken pizza | pesto, prosciutto, asiago & mozzarella
seafood pasta | mussels, calamari
honey ricotta cheesecake | spiced pears, Vin Santo reduction
winter citrus trio | kaffir lime tart, lemon berry torte, blood orange & basil granite
Last but not least, the whole point of going to Distillery was to support one of my girlies, Melody at the YSDN Grad Show 2013: Delve at the gorgeous Fermenting Cellar. Think of the event as a gallery type showing where all the graphic design students in the York/Sheridan joint program showcase their best work that they've done over the last 4 years. So you can imagine how big of a deal this is to them!

4 words. So talented. SO inspired. Was literally in design heaven gawking at all this beautiful art... below are some snapshots of my favourite works.
Congrats Melo on a fantastic 4 years, can't wait to see you knock it out of the park in the real design world ;) Click here to check out her portfolio. Love you! And of course, thanks to Jay for a 'cultural day' - hopefully many, many more to come in the future ;)
Thanks for reading - until next time, love!
